What Does Your Council Do?
The Town Council is led by the Mayor, assisted by the Deputy Mayor.
The Town Council represents the first tier of local government and consists of 12 Councillors who between them represent the three Wards in the Town – East, North and South during their 4 year term in office.
You may contact the Council at the Town Hall. The Town Clerk, Sue Thomas, Assistant Town Clerk, Kate Harvey and Administrator, Lorraine Randall are all most helpful and they should be your first port of call.
The Town Hall is situated 18 Frogmore Road, Marker Drayton, Shropshire,TF9 3AX (opposite The Festival Drayton Centre) and is open to the public from 9.00am to 1.00pm weekdays.
Aims
- To improve the quality of life for residents and businesses in Market Drayton
- To provide effective, transparent and accountable local government of Market Drayton
- To effectively represent the residents and businesses in Market Drayton
- To protect and enhance amenities in Market Drayton
- To preserve and enhance the rural, built and natural environments of Market Drayton
- To enable residents to be involved in the life of Market Drayton and its future development
The Town Council is responsible for or manages the following:
- Allotments (managed by the Allotment Society)
- Bus Shelters
- CCTV
- Cemetery
- Christmas Lights
- In Bloom Competition
- Floral Displays in the Town Centre
- The Festival of Lights
- Parks and open spaces
- Some Street Lights
- Public Toilets
- War Memorial
- Support to local groups and charities via a small grants fund.
Suggestions, Compliments & Complaints
The Council meets about once every eight weeks.
The meetings are open to the public to observe. Much of the Council’s work is undertaken by Committees at present. These meetings have a public session. If you wish to place an item on an agenda please let the Clerk know at least 14 days before the meeting. If you wish to speak on an item please let the Clerk know by noon the day before the meeting. If you have a complaint please contact the Clerk for details of the formal complaints procedure.
