Town Mayor
Following the Annual Council meeting on 9th May I had the honour of being elected by my fellow councillors as Mayor.
During my term of office I will endeavour, to the best of my ability, to work with all members of the council and community groups for the good of our town.
I recognise there are significant challenges for organisations, families and individuals. Many of these are outside the scope of the Town Council, however together with council members and the staff team I will do my best to ensure that issues are addressed where possible and where necessary raised with other organisations eg county council, police and NHS providers. My position as an elected County Council should ease the flow of two way information between Town and County. With mutual support and encouragement we can work together for a town which daily demonstrates community spirit, care and compassion, often quietly and humbly, by some fabulous organisations, charities and individuals. Where I have opportunity to raise funds I will do so for use within the town. One group I hope to support is ‘Little Footprints’, a new group providing much needed support and a place to grieve for anyone affected by the death of a baby, whether through stillbirth, neonatal death, mis-carriage or termination for medical reasons.
I look forward to what the coming year may bring and would encourage people of all ages to come along in person to witness and participate in council meetings. Attendance might demonstrate how local government at town level actually works, counter some of the mis-information expressed on social media and possibly inspire some to seek election.
