Town Mayor

Following the Annual Council meeting on 21st May, I’m once again overwhelmed at being elected for a second term as Town’s Mayor for the forthcoming Civic Year 2026/27.

To say I’m honoured would be an understatement, I thank colleagues in the Council, but also the great community of Market Drayton that has stood by me, and supported me, over the last 12 months.

I am privileged to accept the responsibility of serving as Market Drayton’s Mayor and I do so with humility, but also with conviction because I firmly believe in our town of Market Drayton, I believe in its community, and I believe in its future.

I know the challenges before us, I see the pressures on our neighbourhoods, the struggles and pressures of the modern world, the need for safer streets, stronger and better services, greater opportunity, and leadership that is not only open and welcoming but leadership that also listens.

The last 12 months have seen many changes, both positive and negative but I will continue to work extremely hard for our town, I will continue to be community focused and will continue to build on the relationships I have made over the past 12 months, particularly focussing on our youth, our elderly and our vulnerable residents.

There is much work still to do, we must reinforce our position as Shropshire’s 3rd largest town and we must get that recognition from within Shropshire Council, we cannot, and will not be left behind…., I’m therefore very much looking forward to continuing working with Shropshire Council to achieve our aims and goals, particularly on the poor state of our town’s roads, our town’s infrastructure needs and the many other areas of Shropshire Councils responsibilities.

I also look forward to continuing our good relationship with our local Police, they find themselves working under significant constraints, but we must work together to address aspects such as anti-social behaviour, drug abuse, domestic abuse and speeding issues on our town’s road network.

A particular highlight of the last 12 months has been the work I’ve been able to do with our youth in Market Drayton, having visited all the schools in the town, the youth clubs, the Scouts, Brownies and Beavers, I’ve been absolutely blown away and inspired by our young people’s passion, determination and sheer resilience, I’m very much looking forward to building on, and focussing on, our wonderful youth.

Be rest assured, I’ll be rolling up my sleeves and getting to work, we will build a safer community, we will champion opportunity, we will strengthen those services we are being starved of, and we will lift every community in Market Drayton and ensure that no one is left behind. Our Town Council will continue its hard work, we will be building upon its transparency, its welcoming spirit and we’ll be as engaging as you would want us to be.

In this day & age we have opportunity to raise much needed funds, for various good causes, which is why my chosen charities for this Mayoral year will be the 4 All Foundation and The Royal British Legion.

The 4 All Foundation have a strong presence in Shropshire and particularly Market Drayton, the Foundation provides a wide range of activities, clubs, initiatives, workshops, safe spaces, equipment, programmes, support networks/groups, and courses, in order to help the following – advance the education of local people (particularly children) to develop their skills, achieve qualifications and create employability opportunities, promote and protect people’s health and wellbeing, relieve those in need, by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial or other disadvantage and relieve poverty.

Market Drayton is inextricably linked to the military, which is why The Royal British Legion serves as an incredibly important lifeline to support serving and ex-serving personnel all year round, every day of the week. Their support starts after one day of service and continues through life, long after service is over.

Finally, I very much look forward to not only serving Market Drayton for the coming year but representing and promoting our fantastic Town as your Mayor, I will do so with gratitude, with determination, and with a promise that I’ll give this role everything I have, every single day, for every single resident for the coming year. Thank you.
